Throwback Thursdays

I remember this 1956 French film, The Red Balloon (Le Ballon Rouge) shown back in elementary school and it is one of my favorite classic films. Directed by French filmaker, Albert Lamorisse, this film won a few awards including an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay! This is the kind of movie that makes your heart all fuzzy and brings back some great adventured childhood memories. If you haven’t watched it, I suggest you do!

VALENTINO: THE LAST EMPEROR

VALENTINO THE LAST EMPEROR is a documentary on the legendary designer Valentino Garavani in the wake of his exit in 2008 from the company he founded in Rome more than 45 years ago. Produced and directed by Matt Tyrnauer, Special Correspondent for Vanity Fair magazine, the film is an intimate, engaging and very funny fly-on-the-wall exploration of the singular world of one of Italy’s richest and most famous men. The film documents the colorful and dramatic closing act of Valentino’s celebrated career, tells the story of his extraordinary life and work, and also explores the larger themes affecting the fashion business today. But at the heart of the film is the unique relationship between Valentino and his business partner and companion of 50 years, Giancarlo Giammetti.

VALENTINO THE LAST EMPEROR follows them for the final two years of their careers, and show the struggles the two men face as they confront the final act of a nearly 50-year career at the top of the world’s most glamorous and competitive game. The struggle of art against commerce is at the center of the film. In the end, however, the story proves to be not one about money or expensive clothes, but about love.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs “Zero” Music Video
Yeah Yeah Yeahs new single “Zero” off their new album It’s Blitz premiered March 9. I am so happy with their new album. I personally was not liking Show Your Bones as much as I love Fever To Tell. I also dig the band’s art-punk style; it definitely shows in their new music video and in Karen O’s zany, creative fashion.
They will be performing at Cochella, April 19, and then touring around Europe until who knows when. So don’t miss out!
Random FYI: Karen O is 1/2 Korean, born in South Korea. Her last name, Orzolek, is Polish. She also has a soundtrack on the upcoming & highly anticipated movie, Where The Wild Things Are, directed by former boyfriend, Spike Jonze.
Coco Avant Chanel Movie Trailer
The first time I heard about this movie was on imdb.com after I had just watched Lifetime’s “Coco Chanel” starring Shirley MacLaine. The movie above stars Audrey Tautou and it focuses on Chanel’s childhood and early womanhood. It is about her before she became famous, it is about the events and people that shaped her. The Lifetime version is pretty much the same thing, focusing the story of her love life. I’m sure the Warner Bros. version will tell her love story so it’ll be interesting to see which one will be better. Nonetheless I am super excited!
The film premieres in France on April 22nd and a US release date is still to be decided.
Daft Punk x Tron 2.0

500 Days Of Summer
Plot Synopis:
Boy meets girl. Boy falls in love with girl. Girl doesn’t.
This post modern love story is never what we expect it to be — it’s thorny yet exhilarating, funny and sad, a twisted journey of highs and lows that doesn’t quite go where we think it will. When Tom (Joseph Gorden-Levitt; 10 Things I Hate About You, 3rd Rock From The Sun)a hapless greeting card copywriter and hopeless romantic, is blindsided after his girlfriend Summer (Zooey Deschanel, The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, Elf) dumps him, he shifts back and forth through various periods of their 500 days “together” to try to figure out where things went wrong. His reflections ultimately lead him to finally rediscover his true passions in life.
The film hits theaters July 24, 2009. That’s far too long! I want to see this movie NOW!!!
Watch the trailer for the 1963 French New Wave classic that helped inspire the teaser for Fox Searchlight’s (500) Days Of Summer. It is Jean Luc-Goddard’s CONTEMPT, or in French, LE MEPRIS. The film stars sexy-fresh Brigitte Bardot, Michel Piccoli and Jack Palance.
